"If you can dream it, it can happen."

The Last Pick is about the experience of one individual, Dave McGillivray, Race Director of the BAA Boston Marathon, who as a young man of 5’4 in height, often found himself standing alone as he watched boys of larger stature be enthusiastically selected by coaches to participate in sports.

McGillivray was determined to overcome the odds with perseverance, discipline and an unrelenting desire to do things no one else has ever done before.  As he recounts his 1978 Run Across the Country and countless other athletic achievements, he shows the reader that any goal, big or small, can be attained through preparation and a steadfast belief in oneself. His approach to life will inspire the reader, who may just recognize a little piece of themselves in his experiences.

McGillivray is President and Founder of DMSE (Dave McGillivray Sports Management Enterprises) Inc., an event management company specializing in the creation, marketing and production of mass participatory athletic events throughout the U.S. and abroad. He lives in North Andover, Massachusetts with wife Katie and children Chloe, Luke, Elle, Max, and Ryan.

Linda Glass Fechter, co-author of The Last Pick, is a freelance writer and public relations consultant. She lives in Cohasset, Massachusetts, with husband Michael, daughter Morgan, son Jack, and their two dogs.
