Dave McGillivray
  • Has raised over $1 million for various charities through his events and charitable runs. They include:
  • A solo run across The United States in 1978 from Medford, OR to Medford, MA [his home town], covering the 3,452 miles averaging 45 miles per day!
  • Ran up the East Coast of The United States in 1981 from Florida to Boston.
  • 24 hour run of 120 miles within MA.
  • 24 hour bike ride of 385 miles.
  • 24 hour pool swim of 27 miles.
  • Race director of The BAA Boston Marathon.
  • Founder and President of DMSE, Inc. [Dave McGillivray Sports Enterprises, Inc.]
  • Has completed 115 marathons, including 31 consecutive Boston Marathons!
  • Competed in the third Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii, with 8 finishes to his credit at that distance.
  • Father of two boys, Ryan, 12 and Max, and new baby daughter, Elle

Dave’s feeling on the Trek: After the first time across the country, I swore I would never do it again..solo..and I am keeping my promise! Welcome aboard, men!




Bill Lapsley
  • Computer operator for The MA State Lottery, exercise physiologist, and personal trainer.
  • Bill has degrees from Sylvania Tech/Wentworth Institute in Computer Electronics, and in Physical Education/Exercise Science from Bridgewater State.
  • Completed the 62 mile Chancellor Challenge in 2000, the Vermont 100 miler in 2002, 14 marathons, 4 ultra marathons, and over 50 triathlons.
  • Competed in the Mt. Mitchell 40 mile race - 20 miles up to the highest peak east of the Rockies and then back down in rain, sleet, wind, and 2 feet of melting snow!
  • Completed the Stonecat 50 miler despite breaking a toe.
  • Bill is 47, lives in Plymouth, MA, married to Anna for 21 years, and  parents to: Will,18; Deirdre, 15; and Jack,11.

    Thoughts on Relay:'' First of all, I’ve always been amazed at Dave’s initial cross country run in 1978, and wondered what it must have been like running 45 miles per day. I remember watching the Red Sox game when he finished in Fenway Park. I am thrilled to be able to support the charities that we’ve chosen. My family has been blessed with good health, and I understand that some people aren’t as fortunate, and my hope is that this endeavor will raise enough money to help support these worthwhile charities.''



Harrison 'Hap' Farber
  • Physician , Professor of Medicine, Boston University School of Medicine.
  • Director of Pulmonary Hypertension Center, Boston Medical Center.
  • Completed 40 marathons, including 14 Boston’s!
  • The Vermont 100 miler.
  • Numerous triathlons: 3 at ironman distance, and 1 ultra triathlon!
  • Competes as a mountain bike racer, and all-mountain extreme skier.
  • Hap is 55, and lives in Boston.



Thomas Licciardello
  • Founding member of The Merrimack Valley Striders[www.MVStriders.com] ; 4-time President, and their current Director of Development.
  • Chairman of the Men’s Long Distance Running Committee of USATF/NE.
  • Veteran of 72 marathons, including every Boston Marathon since 1977!
  • Completed the Mt. Washington Road Race 12 times.
  • Middle school teacher following his BS receipt from Springfield College, and his MS from University of Lowell.
  • A Certified Financial Planner, he is Principal of LFS, Inc.[www.LFSPlans.com] a financial planning firm.
  • Radio talk show host:

  • Active in numerous community and professional organizations.
  • Tom is 54 , married to Lyn, and has two married daughters, Amy & Crissy, and grandson, Ben.

Tom on the relay: '' If a person is really lucky, he may get a once in a lifetime opportunity to tackle a Herculean personal challenge, or maybe raise a lot of money for those in need, or live an experience few could ever dream... to get to do all three with nine of the nicest guys in the world, takes my breath away.''




Josh Nemzer
  • Twenty year veteran of numerous endurance events, that include:
    65 marathons- including 19 Boston’s
    3-50 mile ultra marathons
    1- 100 mile trail ultra marathon
    10 –Mt. Washington Road Races
    7 –Empire State Building Run Ups
    6-Ironman distance triathlons
    23 –century bike rides
    3-Chesapeake Bay Swims
  • 1980 graduate of Northeastern University, he has worked the last 25 years for The Federal Government as a Contracting Officer and Data Base Administrator.
  • Born in Brooklyn in 1957, and raised in Norwalk, CT, he now lives in Milton, MA with his wife of 16 years, Rhea Pantazopoulos, and their two children, Alissa, 13, and Aaron, 11.

    Thoughts on Relay: This relay is very special to me. It’s an opportunity to do good for kids by raising needed monies, a chance to cover the country by foot and to hang out with some great folks. This is a once in a lifetime experience, and it’s going to be smashing success!



Mike Thompson
  • Race production supervisor for DMSE, Inc.
  • Began running in high school.
  • Earned his BA from UNLV, and Masters in Education from NE College.
  • The Team’s resident ‘jokester’, who has competed in over 70 triathlons, and has a story for each of them!
  • Mike is married to Patricia, and they live in Derry, NH with  their children, Patrick & Shannon

Bob Lussier
  • Educated at The University of Lowell, Bob received his BA in Art in 1980
  • He has worked for 20 years as a graphic designer, illustrator, and most recently as a web designer at Bitpipe, Inc., a leading syndicator of technical literature on the Internet.
  • As a contributing cartoonist for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune, Bob is the recipient of numerous awards from the New England Press Association, including : Editorial Cartoon of the Year, and Outstanding Skill in Illustration.
  • Longtime member of the Merrimack Valley Striders Running Club, Bob has run 13 marathons, including 7 Boston’s!
  • He jokes that he has “watched several Hawaii Ironman Triathlons on television” Bob is 44 years old; lives in Methuen, MA with his wife Jean, and their three sons: Tom, John, and Ryan.




Paul McGovern
  • Two time top 100 finisher of The Boston Marathon.
  •  22 nd in 1986, and 84 th in 1996.
  • Under 2:20 time at The 1991 US National championship, qualified Paul for the 1992 Olympic Trials, where he placed 16th.
  • At Fitchburg State College, he was The New England Division III 10K champion.
  • He earned his BS in Human Services at Fitchburg State.
  • Works professionally as an assistant physical therapist, and is a certified massage therapist.
  • Paul is 43, married to Beverly, and they have two children: Paul, 5, and Peyton, 4.

Paul's thoughts on The Relay: ''The reason I am involved with TREK USA is that I needed to have a new running goal or pursuit in my life. This relay certainly provides that for me. I have a chance to see a bit of our great country on foot, doing the sport that has given me so much over the years. I appreciate the talent that I was blessed with to achieve my personal running goals, and now I have a chance to use my talents to make money for children's programs in a way I never dreamed possible. As a bonus, I get to do this run with some friends of many years, and new friends with the common goal of helping kids in need.''




Fernando Braz
  • Former All American in cross-country & outdoor track at Peabody, MA high School.
  •  2nd in the country at 10,000 meters, winner of numerous All State and New England titles.
  • New England 10k champion while at Boston College, where he was that school’s first qualifier for The NCAA championships in both cross country and track.
  • 2 –time Olympic marathon trials competitor [ ’88 & ’92 ], with 5 marathon completions to his credit.
  • Member of the Peabody High School and Boston College Sports Hall of Fame.
  • Coaching and teaching at Peabody High School, where in 2000 was named by The Boston Globe as MA High School Division 1 Coach of The Year.
  • Fernando is 41 years old, married to Pam, and with their 3 year old son, Shane, live in Peabody.



Mike Barry
  • BA - Psychology,UMASS/Boston;  MPH, Boston University of Public Health
  • Completed 25 marathons (PR 2:54), 30 triathlons, & 3 ironman distance triathlons (PR:10:43).
  • Enjoys mountain biking and all mountain skiing.
  • Certified with the National Ski Patrol, and affiliated with the Blue Hills Ski Patrol.
  • While attending Umass/Boston, lettered twice in cross country at the age of 40 as one of the oldest varsity athletes in the country!
  • Formerly a Public Health professional; director of educational & training programs, for AIDS & Substance Abuse
  • Currently a race management consultant with Team DMSE and a "ski bum dad."
  • Mike, 55, resides in Milton, MA. Married to Joannie Jaxtimer for 17 years, and the proud  adoptive parents of 9 yr old Michael Jaxtimer-Barry.


Thoughts on Relay:  ''Life has presented me many significant challenges. Along the way I’ve learned to accept these challenges, plot a course of action, get knocked on my butt, get up and keep going. The Trek Relay is one more golden opportunity to experience the thrill of victory, and the agony of da feet!''




Bob Whirty
  • Graduate from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst with a degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Works as a Program Manager to the automotive industry for M/A-COM in Lowell, MA.
  • A runner since sixth grade and the days of basketball sneakers nd rubber sweat suits.
  • An advocate of children in all senses.  YMCA Camp Counselor for eons.
  • Father of two; Hanna, 9 years old, and Rob, 13.
  • Outdoor enthusiast; Colorado Outward Bound graduate; also participated in 2 and 4-week bicycling trips, many backpacking adventures.
  • Active in various community organizations including as a church ministry group leader, member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Merrimack Valley Striders.

About the Relay: "A great cause, a great country, a great crew.  The chance to join TREK USA is a chance of a lifetime, and an opportunity to accomplish something that counts.  Every day should be an adventure, and every day should include doing something for others."




Dave Leonard
  • Educated at Lowell Technological Institute (now University of Massachusetts - Lowell), Dave received his BS in Radiological Health Physics in 1976
  • While in the Naval Air Reserves, was a crew member in P-2 and P-3 Anti-submarine aircraft
  • He worked for 13 years in the nuclear industry before changing careers into computer software for 12 years.  He has worked at Carpenters Benefit Funds for 3 years
  • Longtime member and former officer of the Merrimack Valley Striders Running Club
  • Dave has run 14 marathons, including 10 Bostons; and 5 Mount Washington races
  • Former race director of the North Andover Fourth of July Road Race, which was named one of the top 100 road races in New England by New England Runner Magazine
  • Dave is 51 years old; lives in North Andover, MA with his wife Sue, and their two children, Andrea and Geoff, who share his love of running



Lyn Licciardello
  • Nurse with a BSN from Atlantic Union College.
  • Bilingual instructor in a diabetes education program for Latino elders for Home Health VNA of Merrimack Valley.
  • Two time volunteer with Intercultural Nursing, Inc. caring for the poor in Dominican Republic ghettos.
  • Operations Manager at Licciardello Financial Services, Inc.
  • As a runner since 1977, competed in hundreds of road races including all 27 Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women (formerly Bonne Bell).
  • Completed four marathons (3:43 PR), including the Boston Marathon in 1986
  • Competed in 4 Mt. Washington Road Races.
  • Charter member and past president of the Merrimack Valley Striders running club.
  • Start Captain at the Boston Marathon for numerous years.
  • Frequent volunteer at many road races.
  • Avid skier.
  • Resides in North Andover with husband, Tom.  Mother of two daughters, Amy Lillis and Crissy Licciardello Lippman, and Grammy to baby Ben.



Ron Kramer

RELAY DIRECTOR 

  • Race management consultant for DMSE, Inc.
  • Cross Country & Track Coach at John I. Leonard H.S., West Palm Beach, FL
  •  Member of The BAA Boston Marathon Organizing Committee.
  • Retired salesman, who worked for Pacific Packaging Products for 37 years, in New England, and Nashville, TN
  • Former race director of The National AAU 20k Championship [in Holliston, MA, ‘77&’78]
  • Track Coach at Boston Latin H.S. ['89-'94]
  • Distance runner for over 30 years, with 58 marathon completions [3, as a race walker]; 3-50 mile ultra marathons; and 2-24 hour runs.
  • Ron is 62, father of 3, and grandfather of 3; resides in FL with his wife Fran

Zoe Alexi
  • B.S., Merrimack College, Business Administration - Accounting

Bob Ell
  • Sr. Support Engineer at Haemonetics Corporation, Braintree
  • Certified Deep tissue massage therapist
  • Completed the Mount Washington bike Climb 3 times and numerous other sporting events that include either swimming, biking, running or all three.
  • Completed my first marathon at the Hawaii Iron man Triathlon 2000
  • Competes as a long distance bike racer
