Dave McGillivray writes about what it's like to run races he directs.
Why are courses marked in miles instead of kilometers? Aside from marathons and halfs, many race distances are promoted in kilometers (5-K, 10-K, 15-K, et cetera). I train, as most runners do, on a 400-meter track, and all my training is done in kilometers. What’s with the hang-up on English measurements?
There's a marathon/half-marathon that I've been participating in for the last five years. Organizers used to allow a family member or friend to pick up a runner’s packet as long as they had a copy of the runner’s driver's license and a signed note from the runner. Since then, they have only allowed runners to pick up their own packets.
