Meet the DMSE Team

Meet the crew behind the DMSE name. Anyone who has ever worked with DMSE Sports or attended a DMSE event knows that the firm’s founder, Dave McGillivray, has assembled a team with a reputation for excellence, creativity, and the ability to get the job done right.

Many of the DMSE consultants who work on DMSE events are successes on and off the road. Whether they are full-time road race gurus or hold down another career in law, government, or accounting, the DMSE team is made up of experts who make each event a success. 

Listed here are the staff members who serve as the foundation of the group. However, in any given year, there might be as many as 70 different team members whose responsibilities may range from marketing to moving road cones.

  • Founder & President

    The leading force behind the growth and success of DMSE Sports is the firm’s inspirational and tireless founder, Dave McGillivray, an accomplished athlete, race director, and philanthropist. A native of Medford, Massachusetts, who has run across the United States – twice – for charity, McGillivray is one of the nation’s top race directors, overseeing more than 1,400 major running and sporting events since starting DMSE in 1981.   • CEO

    Matt is a key part of the senior management team and handles much of the day-to-day operations of DMSE. He is involved in every event, either via staffing, management, or marketing. Matt handles many government, client, and vendor relations. Matt serves as event director for the TD Beach to Beacon Road Race as well as Finish Line Manager for the Bank of America Boston Marathon and the Asics Falmouth Road Race. In his spare time, Matt is the operations director for the Antarctica Marathon. Matt joined DMSE in 2006 from the non-profit arts world, where he was the marketing manager for First Night Boston and worked for the Celebrity Series of Boston. A resident of Somerville, Massachusetts, Matt is a 2004 graduate of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, and is originally from Marshfield, Massachusetts.

  • VP of Operations

    Ryan joined the team full time in 2019 though he’s been a member since before he could walk (or run). Ryan is Dave’s oldest of 5 children. Currently, Ryan serves as the Manager of Warehouse and Equipment Operations. His responsibilities include management of equipment and vendors for all events, equipment rentals, vehicle & safety compliance, and assisting senior event managers with daily operations. Ryan currently holds a Commercial Driver’s License, OSHA Certification, and is a Licensed Forklift & Heavy Equipment Operator. Ryan graduated from Stockbridge School of Agriculture with an Associate of Science in Turfgrass Management and Bachelor’s Degree in Plant, Soil, and Insect Sciences from UMass Amherst. Ryan previously worked in the landscape and athletic field industry installing fields such as Fenway Park and Gillette Stadium as well as landscapes across Cape Cod. When Ryan is not working for DMSE he enjoys offshore fishing, tending to his nearly perfect lawn, and spending time with his younger siblings, dog, and wife, Courtney.

  • Director of People

    Courtney joined the team full time in 2021 though she has spent the past several years assisting at various DMSE events. A graduate of Salve Regina University, Courtney has spent the last seven years in the social work field working in the Boston area. Courtney is responsible for and oversees event registration, administrative management, invoicing and clerical work, scheduling event staffing, coordinating team trainings and meetings, and assisting senior event managers with daily tasks. Though a casual runner, Courtney prefers running around the outlets spending time on the beach, as well as enjoying time with her dog and husband.

  • Director of Production & Experiences

    With his extensive experiential marketing and event execution background, Tom brings his unique talents to the DMSE SPORTS brand and our guest’s experiences. Over the years he has designed and executed events and marketing campaigns for some of the best-known sports and outdoor brands on the global stage. Walt Disney is one of Tom’s most admired business leaders and creative influencers. “If you can dream it you can do it” is one of the many Walt Disney quotes you will hear Tom recite on a daily basis. As an avid cyclist, skier, and runner, Tom spends his free time logging thousands of miles on roads around the North Shore of Boston, Southern Maine, and North Conway NH. Tom has spent the past few years managing many of our well-known racecourses and is the lead vehicle coordinator for the BAA Boston Marathon, BAA Half Marathon, BAA 10K, Falmouth Road Race, and the TD Bank Beach to Beacon race. Tom partners with clients like lululemon and TD Beach to Beacon to extend the runners’ experience past the finish line into the post-race party. He has planned and executed multi-day 150-mile epic walking events and is currently part of the leadership teams for Boston Children’s Hospital Eversource Walk for Kids, Making Strides for Breast Cancer, and the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.

  • Director of Operations

    Jake joined the DMSE team following nearly two decades in the emergency medical services field.  He has experience in medical planning, emergency management, along with event operations. He is more of a casual runner, and enjoys managing the events more than participating in them. His passions include being with his family, perfecting his BBQ techniques with his daughter, exploring the outdoors and in the winter, enjoying blue-bird days on the ski slopes.

  • Operations & Equipment Manager

    Prior to joining DMSE Sports full-time, Kyle Shlager spent seven years working for Gillette Stadium as a warehouse worker to working his way to Concessions Assistant Operations Manager. He was responsible for building and stocking all external concessions set ups (think: pit parties, training camps, a field concessions stand for concerts), in addition to managing all of the 75 portable beer locations for all events held at the stadium. When he’s not working, he enjoys time on Cape Cod or hiking/exploration trips with friends.

  • Communications & Marketing Manager

    Kaite Morgan joined the DMSE team as a pro in the running industry. A graduate from Endicott College with a degree in Sport Management, Kaite spent three years as a Marketing and Event Coordinator with JB Sports. She has a passion for anything that helps get people up, outside, and moving. When she’s not working, Kaite enjoys spending time at home on Cape Cod, with her dog, hiking in the White Mountains, traveling, and skiing.
